bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
1
ilāhī atarāka ba`dal īmāni bika tu`adhhibunī
My God, would You punish me after my faith in You?
2
am ba`da ḥubbī iyyāka tuba``idunī
Or after my love for You, would You distance me?
3
am ma`a rajā-ī liraḥmatika waṣafḥika taḥrimunī
Or despite my hope in Your mercy and forgiveness, would You deprive me?
4
am ma`astijāratī bi`afwika tuslimunī
Or despite my seeking refuge in Your pardon, would You forsake me?
5
ḥāshā liwajhikal karīmi an tukhayyibanī
Far be it from Your Generous Face to disappoint me!
6
layta shi`rī alishhaqā-i waladatnī ummī
If only I knew, did my mother bear me for misery?
7
am lil`anā-i rabbatnī
Or did she raise me for hardship?
8
falaytahā lam talidnī walam turabbinī
If only she had neither given birth to me nor raised me!
9
walaytanī `alimt
And if only I knew
10
amin ahlis sa`ādati ja`altanī
Have You made me among the people of happiness?
11
wabiqur-bika wajiwārika khaṣaṣtanī
And have You favored me with Your nearness and proximity?
12
fataqarra bidhālika `aynī
So that my eyes would be comforted by that
13
wataṭma-inna lahu nafsī
And my soul would be at peace with it
14
ilāhī hal tusawwidu wujūhan kharrat sājidatan li`aẓamatik
My God, would You blacken faces that have prostrated to Your Greatness?
15
aw tukhrisu alsinatan naṭaqat bilthhanā-i `alā majdika wajalālatik
Or silence tongues that have spoken in praise of Your Glory and Majesty?
16
aw taṭba`u `alā qulūbininṭawat `alā maḥabbatik
Or seal hearts that have embraced Your love?
17
aw tuṣimmu asmā`an taladhhadhat bisamā`i dhikrika fī irādatik
Or deafen ears that have delighted in hearing Your remembrance in accordance with Your will?
18
aw taghullu akuffan rafa`at-hal-āmālu ilayka rajā-a ra-fatik
Or shackle hands that have been raised in hope toward You, seeking Your compassion?
19
aw tu`āqibu abdānan `amilat biṭā`atika ḥattā naḥilat fī mujāhadatik
Or punish bodies that have worked in Your obedience until they became thin in their striving for You?
20
aw tu`adhhibu ar-julan sa`at fī `ibādatik
Or torture feet that have walked in Your worship?
21
ilāhī lā tughliq `alā muwaḥḥidīka abwāba raḥmatik
My God, do not close the doors of Your mercy to those who proclaim Your Oneness
22
walā taḥjub mushtāqīka `anin naẓari ilā jamīli ru-yatik
And do not veil those who long for You from gazing at Your beautiful vision
23
ilāhī nafsun a`zaztahā bitawḥīdik
My God, a soul that You have honored with Your Oneness
24
kayfa tudhilluhā bimahānati hijrānik
How could You humiliate it with the disgrace of Your abandonment?
25
waḍamīrunin`aqada `alā mawaddatik
And a conscience bound to Your love
26
kayfa tuḥriquhu biḥarārati nīrānik
How could You burn it with the heat of Your fires?
27
ilāhī ajir-nī min alīmi ghaḍabik
My God, protect me from the pain of Your wrath
28
wa`aẓīmi sakhaṭik
And the magnitude of Your anger
29
yā ḥannānu yā mannān
O Most Compassionate, O Benefactor
30
yā raḥīmu yā raḥmān
O Merciful, O Beneficent
31
yā jabbāru yā qahhār
O Compeller, O Subduer
32
yā ghaffāru yā sattār
O Forgiver, O Concealer
33
najjinī biraḥmatika min `adhābin nār
Save me by Your mercy from the punishment of the Fire
34
wafaḍīḥatil `ār
And from the disgrace of shame
35
idhamtāzal akhyāru minal ashrār
When the good are separated from the evil
36
waḥālatil aḥwāl
And conditions change
37
wahālatil ahwāl
And terrors frighten
38
waqarubal muḥsinūn
And the righteous are brought near
39
waba`udal musī-ūn
And the evil-doers are distanced
40
wawuffiyat kullu nafsin mā kasabat
And every soul shall be paid in full for what it has earned
41
wahum lā yuẓlamūn
And they shall not be wronged
