بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
1
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ أَحَدًا لَا يَبْلُغُ مِنْ شُكْرِكَ غَايَةً
allāhumma inna aḥadan lā yablughu min shukrika ghāyah
O Allah, no one can reach the ultimate limit in thanking You
2
إِلَّا حَصَلَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ إِحْسَانِكَ مَا يُلْزِمُهُ شُكْرًا
illā ḥaṣala `alayhi min iḥsānika mā yulzimuhu shukrā
Except that they would have received from Your favors that which requires even more gratitude
3
وَ لَا يَبْلُغُ مَبْلَغًا مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ وَ إِنِ اجْتَهَدَ
wa lā yablughu mablaghan min ṭā`atika wa inijtahad
And no one can reach the highest degree in obeying You, even if they strive
4
إِلَّا كَانَ مُقَصِّرًا دُوْنَ اسْتِحْقَاقِكَ بِفَضْلِكَ
illā kāna muqaṣṣiran dūnastiḥqāqika bifaḍlik
Except that they would still fall short of what Your grace deserves
5
فَأَشْكَرُ عِبَادِكَ عَاجِزٌ عَنْ شُكْرِكَ
fa-ashkaru `ibādika `ājizun `an shukrik
Even the most grateful of Your servants is incapable of thanking You properly
6
وَ أَعْبَدُهُمْ مُقَصِّرٌ عَنْ طَاعَتِكَ
wa a`baduhum muqaṣṣirun `an ṭā`atik
And the most devoted of them falls short in obeying You
7
لَا يَجِبُ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لَهُ بِاسْتِحْقَاقِهِ
lā yajibu li-aḥadin an taghfira lahu bistiḥqāqih
No one deserves that You forgive them based on their merit
8
وَ لَا أَنْ تَرْضَى عَنْهُ بِاسْتِيجَابِهِ
wa lā an tar-ḍā `anhu bistījābih
Nor that You be pleased with them based on their worthiness
9
فَمَنْ غَفَرْتَ لَهُ فَبِطَوْلِكَ
faman ghafar-ta lahu fabiṭawlik
So whoever You forgive, it is by Your generosity
10
وَ مَنْ رَضِيْتَ عَنْهُ فَبِفَضْلِكَ
wa man raḍīta `anhu fabifaḍlik
And whoever You are pleased with, it is by Your grace
11
تَشْكُرُ يَسِيرَ مَا شَكَرْتَهُ، وَ تُثِيبُ عَلَى قَلِيلِ مَا تُطَاعُ فِيهِ
tashkuru yasīra mā shakar-tah, wa tuthību `alā qalīli mā tuṭā`u fīh
You appreciate the little gratitude shown to You, and reward even the smallest act of obedience
12
حَتَّى كَأَنَّ شُكْرَ عِبَادِكَ الَّذِيْ أَوْجَبْتَ عَلَيْهِ ثَوَابَهُمْ
ḥattā ka-anna shukra `ibādikal ladhī awjabta `alayhi thawābahum
As if the gratitude of Your servants for which You obligated their reward
13
وَ أَعْظَمْتَ عَنْهُ جَزَاءَهُمْ
wa a`ẓamta `anhu jazā-ahum
And for which You have greatly magnified their recompense
14
أَمْرٌ مَلَكُوْا اسْتِطَاعَةَ الِامْتِنَاعِ مِنْهُ دُونَكَ
amrun malakustiṭā`atal imtinā`i minhu dūnak
Was something they had the power to withhold from You
15
فَكَافَيْتَهُمْ، أَوْ لَمْ يَكُنْ سَبَبُهُ بِيَدِكَ فَجَازَيْتَهُمْ
fakāfaytahum, aw lam yakun sababuhu biyadika fajāzaytahum
So You rewarded them, or as if its cause was not in Your hands, so You compensated them
16
بَلْ مَلَكْتَ يَا إِلَهِيْ أَمْرَهُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمْلِكُوْا عِبَادَتَكَ
bal malakta yā ilahī amrahum qabla an yamlikū `ibādatak
But in fact, O my God, You possessed their affairs before they possessed the ability to worship You
17
وَ أَعْدَدْتَ ثَوَابَهُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُفِيضُوْا فِيْ طَاعَتِكَ
wa a`dadta thawābahum qabla an yufīḍū fī ṭā`atik
And You prepared their reward before they began to obey You
18
وَ ذٰلِكَ أَنَّ سُنَّتَكَ الْإِفْضَالُ
wa dhālika anna sunnatakal ifḍāl
And that is because Your way is to bestow favors
19
وَ عَادَتَكَ الْإِحْسَان، وَ سَبِيلَكَ الْعَفْوُ
wa `ādatakal iḥsān, wa sabīlakal `afw
Your habit is to do good, and Your path is forgiveness
20
فَكُلُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ مُعْتَرِفَةٌ بِأَنَّكَ غَيْرُ ظَالِمٍ لِمَنْ عَاقَبْتَ
fakullul bariyyati mu`tarifatun bi-annaka ghayru ẓālimin liman `āqabt
All creation acknowledges that You are not unjust to those whom You punish
21
وَ شَاهِدَةٌ بِأَنَّكَ مُتَفَضِّلٌ عَلَى مَنْ عَافَيْتَ
wa shāhidatun bi-annaka mutafaḍḍilun `alā man `āfayt
And they bear witness that You are gracious to those whom You pardon
22
وَ كُلٌّ مُقِرٌّ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بِالتَّقْصِيرِ عَمَّا اسْتَوْجَبْتَ
wa kullun muqirrun `alā nafsihi bittaqṣīri `ammastawjabt
And each admits their own shortcomings regarding what You deserve
23
فَلَوْ لَا أَنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَخْتَدِعُهُمْ عَنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا عَصَاكَ عَاصٍ
falaw lā annash shayṭāna yakhtadi`uhum `an ṭā`atika mā `aṣāka `āṣ
If Satan did not deceive them from obeying You, no one would disobey You
24
وَ لَوْ لَا أَنَّهُ صَوَّرَ لَهُمُ الْبَاطِلَ فِيْ مِثَالِ الْحَقِّ
wa law lā annahu ṣawwara lahumul bāṭila fī mithālil ḥaqq
And if he did not present falsehood to them in the image of truth
25
مَا ضَلَّ عَنْ طَرِيقِكَ ضَالٌّ
mā ḍalla `an ṭarīqika ḍāll
No one would stray from Your path
26
فَسُبْحَانَكَ مَا أَبْيَنَ كَرَمَكَ
fasubḥānaka mā abyana karamak
Glory be to You! How evident is Your generosity
27
فِيْ مُعَامَلَةِ مَنْ أَطَاعَكَ أَوْ عَصَاكَ
fī mu`āmalati man aṭā`aka aw `aṣāk
In dealing with those who obey You or disobey You
28
تَشْكُرُ لِلْمُطِيعِ مَا أَنْتَ تَوَلَّيْتَهُ لَهُ
tashkuru lilmuṭī`i mā anta tawallaytahu lah
You thank the obedient one for what You Yourself have bestowed upon them
29
وَ تُمْلِيْ لِلْعَاصِيْ فِيمَا تَمْلِكُ مُعَاجَلَتَهُ فِيهِ
wa tumlī lil`āṣī fīmā tamliku mu`ājalatahu fīh
And You give respite to the disobedient one when You could hasten their punishment
30
أَعْطَيْتَ كُلًّا مِنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَجِبْ لَهُ
a`ṭayta kullan minhumā mā lam yajib lah
You have given each of them what they did not deserve
31
وَ تَفَضَّلْتَ عَلَى كُلٍّ مِنْهُمَا بِمَا يَقْصُرُ عَمَلُهُ عَنْهُ
wa tafaḍḍalta `alā kullin minhumā bimā yaqṣuru `amaluhu `anh
And You have favored each with what their deeds fall short of
32
وَ لَوْ كَافَأْتَ الْمُطِيعَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتَ تَوَلَّيْتَهُ
wa law kāfa-tal muṭī`a `alā mā anta tawallaytah
If You were to reward the obedient only for what You had enabled them to do
33
لَأَوْشَكَ أَنْ يَفْقِدَ ثَوَابَكَ
la-awshaka an yafqida thawābak
They would be on the verge of losing Your reward
34
وَ أَنْ تَزُولَ عَنْهُ نِعْمَتُكَ
wa an tazūla `anhu ni`matuk
And Your blessings would cease for them
35
وَ لٰكِنَّكَ بِكَرَمِكَ جَازَيْتَهُ
wa lākinnaka bikaramika jāzaytah
But by Your generosity, You have rewarded them
36
عَلَى الْمُدَّةِ الْقَصِيرَةِ الْفَانِيَةِ بِالْمُدَّةِ الطَّوِيلَةِ الْخَالِدَةِ
`alal muddatil qaṣīratil fāniyati bil muddatiṭ ṭawīlatil khālidah
For their short, fleeting time with an eternal, lengthy period
37
وَ عَلَى الْغَايَةِ الْقَرِيبَةِ الزَّائِلَةِ بِالْغَايَةِ الْمَدِيدَةِ الْبَاقِيَةِ
wa `alal ghāyatil qarībatiz zā-ilati bil ghāyatil madīdatil bāqiyah
And for their near, passing goal with a lasting, extended one
38
ثُمَّ لَمْ تَسُمْهُ الْقِصَاصَ فِيمَا أَكَلَ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ
thumma lam tasumhul qiṣāṣa fīmā akala min rizqik
Then You did not hold them accountable for consuming Your sustenance
39
اَلَّذِيْ يَقْوَى بِهِ عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ
al ladhī yaqwā bihi `alā ṭā`atik
Which gave them strength to obey You
40
وَ لَمْ تَحْمِلْهُ عَلَى الْمُنَاقَشَاتِ فِيْ الْآلَاتِ
wa lam taḥmilhu `alal munāqashāti fil-ālāt
Nor did You burden them with detailed questioning about the faculties
41
اَلَّتِيْ تَسَبَّبَ بِاسْتِعْمَالِهَا إِلَى مَغْفِرَتِكَ
al latī tasabbaba bisti`mālihā ilā maghfiratik
Which they used to seek Your forgiveness
42
وَ لَوْ فَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ بِهِ
wa law fa`alta dhālika bih
And if You had done that with them
43
لَذَهَبَ بِجَمِيْعِ مَا كَدَحَ لَهُ
ladhahaba bijamī`i mā kadaḥa lah
They would have lost all that they had earned
44
وَ جُمْلَةِ مَا سَعَى فِيهِ
wa jumlati mā sa`ā fīh
And all that they had strived for
45
جَزَاءً لِلصُّغْرَى مِنْ أَيَادِيْكَ وَ مِنَنِكَ
jazā-an liṣṣughrā min ayādīka wa minanik
As payment for just the smallest of Your favors and gifts
46
وَ لَبَقِيَ رَهِينًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ بِسَائِرِ نِعَمِكَ
wa labaqiya rahīnan bayna yadayka bisā-iri ni`amik
And they would remain indebted before You for all Your other blessings
47
فَمَتَى كَانَ يَسْتَحِقُّ شَيْئًا مِنْ ثَوَابِكَ لَا مَتَى
famatā kāna yastaḥiqqu shay-an min thawābika lā matā
So when would they ever deserve any of Your reward? Never!
48
هَذَا يَا إِلَهِيْ حَالُ مَنْ أَطَاعَكَ وَ سَبِيلُ مَنْ تَعَبَّدَ لَكَ
hadhā yā ilahī ḥālu man aṭā`aka wa sabīlu man ta`abbada lak
This, O my God, is the state of one who obeys You and the path of one who worships You
49
فَأَمَّا الْعَاصِيْ أَمْرَكَ وَ الْمُوَاقِعُ نَهْيَكَ
fa-ammal `āṣī amraka wal muwāqi`u nahyak
As for the one who disobeys Your command and violates Your prohibition
50
فَلَمْ تُعَاجِلْهُ بِنَقِمَتِكَ لِكَيْ يَسْتَبْدِلَ بِحَالِهِ فِيْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ
falam tu`ājilhu binaqimatika likay yastabdila biḥālihi fī ma`ṣiyatik
You do not hasten Your vengeance so that they may replace their state of disobedience
51
حَالَ الْإِنَابَةِ إِلَى طَاعَتِكَ
ḥālal inābati ilā ṭā`atik
With a state of repentance and obedience to You
52
وَ لَقَدْ كَانَ يَسْتَحِقُّ فِيْ أَوَّلِ مَا هَمَّ بِعِصْيَانِكَ
wa laqad kāna yastaḥiqqu fī awwali mā hamma bi`iṣyānik
Yet they deserved, from the first moment they contemplated disobeying You
53
كُلَّ مَا أَعْدَدْتَ لِجَمِيْعِ خَلْقِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ
kulla mā a`dadta lijamī`i khalqika min `uqūbatik
All the punishment You have prepared for Your entire creation
54
فَجَمِيعُ مَا أَخَّرْتَ عَنْهُ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ
fajamī`u mā akhhar-ta `anhu minal `adhāb
So all the punishment You have delayed for them
55
وَ أَبْطَأْتَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سَطَوَاتِ النَّقِمَةِ وَ الْعِقَابِ تَرْكٌ مِنْ حَقِّكَ
wa abṭa-ta bihi `alayhi min saṭawātin naqimati wal `iqābi tar-kun min ḥaqqik
And all the retribution You have postponed is a relinquishment of Your right
56
وَ رِضًى بِدُونِ وَاجِبِكَ
wa riḍan bidūni wājibik
And an acceptance of less than what is due to You
57
فَمَنْ أَكْرَمُ يَا إِلَهِيْ مِنْكَ
faman akramu yā ilahī mink
So who is more generous than You, O my God?
58
وَ مَنْ أَشْقَى مِمَّنْ هَلَكَ عَلَيْكَ لَا مَنْ
wa man ashqā mimman halaka `alayka lā man
And who is more wretched than one who perishes in spite of You? None!
59
فَتَبَارَكْتَ أَنْ تُوصَفَ إِلَّا بِالْإِحْسَانِ
fatabārakta an tūṣafa illā bil iḥsān
Blessed are You! You can only be described by benevolence
60
وَ كَرُمْتَ أَنْ يُخَافَ مِنْكَ إِلَّا الْعَدْلُ
wa karumta an yukhāfa minka illal `adl
And You are too generous for anything but justice to be feared from You
61
لَا يُخْشَى جَوْرُكَ عَلَى مَنْ عَصَاكَ
lā yukhshā jawruka `alā man `aṣāk
No one fears Your injustice toward those who disobey You
62
وَ لَا يُخَافُ إِغْفَالُكَ ثَوَابَ مَنْ أَرْضَاكَ
wa lā yukhāfu ighfāluka thawāba man ar-ḍāk
Nor do they fear that You will neglect to reward those who please You
63
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ وَ هَبْ لِيْ أَمَلِي
faṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa-ālihi wa hab lī amalī
So send blessings upon Muhammad and his family, and grant me my hope
64
وَ زِدْنِيْ مِنْ هُدَاكَ
wa zidnī min hudāk
And increase me in Your guidance
65
مَا أَصِلُ بِهِ إِلَى التَّوْفِيقِ فِيْ عَمَلِي
mā aṣilu bihi ilat tawfīqi fī `amalī
By which I may attain success in my deeds
66
إِنَّكَ مَنَّانٌ كَرِيمٌ
innaka mannānun karīm
Indeed, You are the Bestower, the Generous
