38

40

waraḥmatullāhi wabarakātuh

42
ash-hadu annaka akhū rasūlillāh
I bear witness that you are indeed the brother of Allah’s Messenger,
43
wawaṣiyyuhu wawārithu `ilmih
the successor of him, the heir of his knowledge,
44
wa-amīnuhu `alā shar-`ih
his trustee on his laws,
45
wakhalīfatuhu fī ummatih
his representative in his nation,
46
wa-awwalu man-āmana billāh
and the first to believe in Allah
47
waṣaddaqa bimā unzila `alā nabiyyih
and to accept as true all that which was revealed to Allah’s Prophet.
48
wa-ash-hadu annahu qad ballagha `anillāhi mā anzalahu fīk
I also bear witness that he [i.e. the Prophet] conveyed all that which Allah revealed to him concerning you;
49
faṣada`a bi-amrih
so, he expounded openly what he was commanded [to expound],
50
wa-awjaba `alā ummatihi far-ḍa ṭā`atika wawilāyatik
declared to his nation the duty of obedience and loyalty to you,
51
wa`aqada `alayhimul bay`ata lak
ordered them to swear allegiance to you,
52
waja`alaka awlā bil mu-minīna min anfusihim
and declared you as enjoying more priority on the believers than that which they enjoy on themselves
53
kamā ja`alahullāhu kadhālik
in the same was as Allah has made him enjoy the same.
54
thumma ash-hadallāha ta`ālā `alayhim
He then asked Allah the All-exalted to be the witness on them [in this respect],
55
faqāla alastu qad ballaght
saying, “Have I conveyed?”
56
faqālū allāhumma balā
They answered, “Yes, you have. We swear to it by Allah.”
57
faqāla allāhummash-had
He thus said, “O Allah, be the witness
58
wakafā bika shahīdan waḥākiman baynal `ibād
and You are sufficient Witness and Judge between the servants [0f Yours].”
59
fala`anallāhu jāḥida wilāyatika ba`dal iqrār
Hence, curse of Allah be upon him who denied the allegiance to you after he had confessed of it
60
wanākitha `ahdika ba`dal mīthāq
and upon him who breached his pledge to you after he had taken it.
61
wa-ash-hadu annaka wafayta bi`ahdillāhi ta`ālā
I also bear witness that you have indeed observed your pledge to Almighty Allah
62
wa-annallāha ta`ālā mūfin laka bi`ahdih
and that Almighty Allah, in return, shall observe His pledge to you.
63
waman awfā bimā `āhada `alayhullāha fasayu-tīhi ajran `aẓīmā
“Therefore, whoever fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah, He will grant him a mighty reward.”
64
wa-ash-hadu annaka amīrul mu-minīnal ḥaqq
I also bear witness that you are truly the commander of the faithful,
65
al ladhī naṭaqa biwilāyatikat tanzīl
the Divine Revelation did declare your commissioned leadership,
66
wa-akhadha lakal `ahda `alal ummati bidhālikar rasūl
and the Messenger made a covenant with the people [that they would be under your leadership].
67
wa-ash-hadu annaka wa`ammaka wa-akhāk
I also bear witness that you, along with your uncle and brother,
68
al ladhīna tājar-tumullāha binufūsikum
traded with Allah in your souls;
69
fa-anzalallāhu fīkum
He therefore revealed about you this:
70
innallāhashtarā minal mu-minīna anfusahum wa-amwālahum
“Surely, Allah has bought of the believers their persons and their property for this,
71
bi-annna lahumul jannah
that they shall have Paradise;
72
yuqātilūna fī sabīlillāhi fayaqtulūna wayuqtalūn
they fight in Allah's way, so they slay and are slain;
73
wa`dan `alayhi ḥaqqan fit tawrāti wal-injīli walqur-ān
a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Bible and the Qur'an;
74
waman awfā bi`ahdihi minallāh
and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah?
75
fastabshirū bibay`ikumul ladhī bāya`tum bih
Rejoice therefore in the pledge which you have made;
76
wadhālika huwal fawzul `aẓīm
and that is the mighty achievement.
77
at tā-ibūnal `ābidūn
They who turn to Allah, who serve Him,
78
al ḥāmidūnas sā-iḥūn
who praise Him, who fast,
79
ar rāki`ūnas sājidūn
who bow down, who prostrate themselves,
80
al-āmirūna bil ma`rūfi wan nāhūna `anil munkar
who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil,
81
walḥāfiẓūna liḥudūdillāhi wabashhiril mu-minīn
and who keep the limits of Allah; and give good news to the believers.”
82
ash-hadu yā amīral mu-minīn
O Commander of the Faithful, I bear witness
83
annash shākka fīka mā-āmana birrasūlil amīn
that whoever doubts about you has never believed in the Trusted Messenger,
84
wa-annal `ādila bika ghayraka `ānidun `anid dīnil qawīm
and whoever leaves you to choose another [as his leader] has indeed diverted the true religion,
85
al ladhir-taḍāhu lanā rabbul `ālamīn
that the Lord of the worlds has chosen for us,
86
wa-akmalahu biwilāyatika yawmal ghadīr
and that He completed it on the Ghadir Day through [declaring] the Divinely commissioned leadership of you.
87
wa-ash-hadu annakal ma`niyyu biqawlil `azīzir raḥīm
And I bear witness that you are the one intended in the following saying of the Almighty, All-merciful Lord:
88
wa-anna hādhā ṣirāṭī mustaqīman fāttibi`ūh
“And this is My path, the right one; therefore, follow it,
89
walā tattabi`us subula fatafarraqa bikum `an sabīlih
and follow not other ways, for they will lead you away from His way.”
90
ḍalla wallāhi wa-aḍalla manittaba`a siwāk
I swear by Allah that whoever follows any one other than you has in fact strayed off the right way and misled others [i.e. those who imitate him],
91
wa`anada `anil ḥaqqi man `ādāk
and that whoever incurs the hostility of you has undoubtedly rejected the right.
92
allāhumma sami`nā li-amrik
O Allah, we have listened to Your command
93
wa-aṭa`nā wattaba`nā ṣirāṭakal mustaqīm
obeyed, and followed Your straight path;
94
fahdinā rabbanā
therefore, [please do] guide us, O our Lord!
95
walā tuzigh qulūbanā ba`da idh hadaytanā ilā ṭā`atik
And do not cause our hearts to deviate after You have guided us to the obedience to You,
96
waj`alnā minash shākirīna li-an`umik
and include us with those who always thank You for Your bounties.
97
wa-ash-hadu annaka lam tazal lilhawā mukhālifā
And I also bear witness that you have always been at variance with whimsical desires
98
walittuqā muḥālifā
as you have always been in line with piety,
99
wa`alā kaẓmil ghayẓi qādirā
you have always been capable of suppressing your rage,
100
wa`anin nāsi `āfiyan ghāfirā
you have always forgiven and pardoned people,
101
wa-idhā `uṣiyallāhu sākhiṭā
and when Allah is disobeyed, you have always been furious,
102
wa-idhā uṭī`allāhu rāḍiyā
and when He is obeyed, you have always been pleased,
103
wabimā `ahida ilayka `āmilā
and you have always carried out what Allah has commissioned you to do,
104
rā`iyan limastuḥfiẓt
you have always observed what has been entrusted with you,
105
ḥāfiẓan limastūdi`t
you have always kept what has been confided to you,
106
muballighan mā ḥummilt
you have always conveyed what you were ordered to convey,
107
muntaẓiran mā wu`idt
and you have always expected that which you were promised.
108
wa-ash-hadu annaka mattaqayta ḍāri`ā
And I bear witness that as you sometimes conceded some things, you did not do that on account of humiliation,
109
walā amsakta `an ḥaqqika jāzi`ā
and as you sometimes did not demand with your right, you did not do that on account of fear,
110
walā aḥjamta `an mujāhadati ghāṣibīka nākilā
and as you sometimes stopped combating those who usurped your right, you did not do so on account of weakness,
111
walā aẓhar-tar riḍā bikhilāfi mā yur-ḍillāha mudāhinā
and as you [on a certain occasion] showed contentment to things to which Allah is not pleased, you did not do so on account of flattery,
112
walā wahanta limā aṣābaka fī sabīlillāh
and you have never been weakened by what befell you for the sake of Allah,
113
walā ḍa`ufta walastakanta `an ṭalabi ḥaqqika murāqibā
and you have never been feeble and you have never abased yourself as regards demanding with your rights on account of fear.
114
ma`ādhallāhi an takūna kadhālik
I seek Allah’s refuge against such claims;
115
bal idh ẓulimtaḥtasabta rabbak
rather, when you were wronged, you relied upon your Lord in these questions
116
wafawwaḍta ilayhi amrak
and entrusted your affair to Him,
117
wadhakkar-tahum famāddakarū
and as you reminded them [of their allegiance to you], they did not regard it,
118
wawa`aẓtahum famatta`aẓuwā
and as you preached them, they did not accept from you,
119
wakhawwaftahumullāha famā takhawwafuwā
and as you instructed them to fear Allah, they did not mind.
120
wa-ash-hadu annaka yā amīral mu-minīn
I also bear witness, O Commander of the Faithful,
121
jāhadta fillāhi ḥaqqa jihādih
that you strove in the way of Allah in the most appropriate way
122
ḥattā da`ākallāhu ilā jiwārih
until Allah summoned you to be in His vicinity,
123
waqabaḍaka ilayhi bikhtiyārih
chose to grasp you,
124
wa-alzama a`dā-akal ḥujjata biqatlihim iyyāk
and established the argument against your enemies who killed you,
125
litakūnal ḥujjatu laka `alayhim

And I bear witness that whenever you did something or you avoided doing something,
198
walā naṭaqta walā amsakt
and whenever you said something or you kept silent;
199
illā bi-amrin minallāhi warasūlih

200
qulta walladhī nafsī biyadih
You thus said, “I swear this by Him Who grasps my soul:
201
laqad naẓara ilayya rasūlullāhi ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālih
when the Messenger of Allah—peace of Allah be upon him and his Household—
202
aḍribu bissayfi qudman faqāl
watched me striking [the enemies] with my sword ceaselessly, he said to me,
203
yā `aliyyu anta minnī bimanzilati hārūna min mūsā
‘O `Ali, your position to me is the same as [Prophet] Aaron’s position to [Prophet] Moses;
204
illā annahu lā nabiyya ba`dī
yet, there shall be no prophet after me.
205
wa-u`limuka anna mawtaka waḥayātaka ma`ī wa`alā sunnatī
I would like to further inform you that your death and your lifestyle shall be with me and according to my instruction.’
206

[Imam `Ali continued] I swear by Allah that I have not told untruth and none shall belie me,
207
walā ḍalaltu walā ḍulli bī
and I have never strayed off and none shall ever mislead me,
208
walā nasītu mā `ahida ilayya rabbī
and I have never forgotten my Lord’s instructions to me,
209
wa-innī la`alā bayyinatin min rabbī bayyanahā linabiyyih
and I do follow the true path of my Lord that He showed His Prophet
210
wabayyanahan nabiyyu lī
and the Prophet showed me,
211
wa-innī la`alaṭ ṭarīqil wāḍiḥi alfiẓuhu lafẓā
and, most certainly, I am following the lucid path step by step.”
212
ṣadaqta wallāhi waqultal ḥaqq
By Allah I swear, true are your words and you have said nothing but the truth.
213
fala`anallāhu man sāwāka biman nāwāk
Curse of Allah be upon those who compare you to your enemies,
214
wallāhu jallasmuhu yaqūl
while Allah, Whose Name be elevated, says,
215
hal yastawil ladhīna ya`lamūna walladhīna lā ya`lamūn
“Are those who know and those who do not know alike?”
216
fala`anallāhu man `adala bika man faraḍallāhu `alayhi wilāyatak
So, the curse of Allah be upon those who compared you to those whom Allah has ordered to follow your leadership,
217
wa-anta waliyyullāh
while you are the friend of Allah,
218
wa-akhū rasūlih

220
walladhī naṭaqal qur-ānu bitafḍīlih
and the one whose preference [to all others] has been declared by the Qur'an;
221
qālallāhu ta`ālā
hence, Almighty Allah says,
222
wafaḍḍalallāhul mujāhidīna `alal qā`idīna ajran `aẓīmā

waqālallāhu ta`ālā
Almighty Allah has also said,
226
aja`altum siqāyatal ḥājji wa`imāratal masjidil ḥarām
“Do you make one who undertakes the giving of drink to the pilgrims and the guarding of the Sacred Mosque
227
kaman-āmana billāhi walyawmil-ākhiri wajāhada fī sabīlillāh
to be like him who believes in Allah and the latter day and strives hard in Allah's way?
228
lā yastawūna `indallāh
They are not equal with Allah;
229
wallāhu lā yahdil qawmaẓ ẓālimīn
and Allah does not guide the unjust people.
230
al ladhīna-āmanū wahājarū
Those who believed, fled their homes,
231
wajāhadū fī sabīlillāhi bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim

234
yubashhiruhum rabbuhum biraḥmatin minhu wariḍwān
Their Lord gives them good news of mercy from Himself and His good pleasure
235
wajannātin lahum fīhā na`īmun muqīm
and gardens, wherein lasting blessings shall be theirs;
236
khālidīna fīhā abadā
abiding therein for ever.

ash-hadu annakal makhṣūṣu bimid-ḥatillāh
I bear witness that Allah’s words of praise mean you exclusively
239
al mukhliṣu liṭā`atillāh
and you are the most sincere in the obedience to Allah
240
lam tabghi bil hudā badalā
as you have never accepted any alternative for the right guidance
241
walam tushrik bi`ibādati rabbika aḥadā
and you have never associated anyone in your worshipping your Lord.
242
wa-annallāha ta`ālā istajāba linabiyyih
And Almighty Allah has responded the prayer of His Prophet—
243
ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālihi fīka da`watah
peace of Allah be upon him and his Household—concerning you.
244
thumma amarahu bi-iẓhāri mā awlākal-ummatih

249
falammā ashfaqa min fitnatil fāsiqīn
But when he [i.e. the Prophet] worried about the sedition that would be aroused by the transgressing group due to such declaration
250
wattaqā fīkal munāfiqīn
and he did not want you to be faced by the hypocrites,
251
awḥā ilayhi rabbul `ālamīn
the Lord of the worlds revealed to him, saying,
252
yā ayyuhar rasūlu balligh mā unzila ilayka min rabbik
“O Messenger! Proclaim the message which has been sent to you from your Lord.
253
wa-in lam taf`al famā ballaghta risālatah
If you did it not, you would not have fulfilled and proclaimed His mission.
254
wallāhu ya`ṣimuka minan nās
And Allah will defend you from men [who mean mischief].”
255
fawaḍa`a `alā nafsihi awzāral masīr
Accordingly, he [i.e. the Prophet] burdened himself with the loads of [long] walking
256
wanahaḍa fī ramḍā-il hajīr
and stood up under the burning sun in the midst of the desert,
257
fakhaṭaba wa-asma`
where he delivered a speech, made everyone listen to him,
258
wanādā fa-ablagh
and called upon them with rhetorical language.
259
thumma sa-alahum ajma`
He then asked them all,
260
faqāla hal ballaght
“Have I conveyed [the message]?”
261
faqālū allāhumma balā
“Yes, you have. We swear it by Allah,” they answered.
262
faqāla allāhummash-had
“O Allah, be the witness!” the Prophet said.
263
thumma qāla alastu awlā bil mu-minīna min anfusihim
He then added, “Do I not enjoy more priority to the selves of the believers than that which they enjoy on themselves?”
264
faqālū balā
“Yes, you do,” answered they.
265
fa-akhadha biyadika waqāl
Hen then took you from the hand and said,
266
man kuntu mawlāhu fahādhā `aliyyun mawlāh
“This `Ali is now the master of every one who has betaken me as his master.
267
allāhumma wāli man wālāh
O Allah, [please do] support those who support `Ali,
268
wa`ādi man `ādāh
be the enemy of those who incur the hostility of `Ali,
269
wanṣur man naṣarah
give victory to those who stand by `Ali,
270
wakhdhul man khadhalah
and disappoint those who disappoint `Ali.”
271
famā-āmana bimā anzalallāhu fīka `alā nabiyyihi illā qalīl
Nevertheless, none believed in what Allah has revealed to His Prophet about you except a few.
272
walā zāda aktharahum ghayra takhyīr
Similarly, this [Divinely commissioned] declaration did not increase others but obstinacy.
273
walaqad anzalallāhu ta`ālā fīka min qablu wahum kārihūn
In defiance of them, Almighty Allah had revealed in this connection:
274
yā ayyuhal ladhīna-āmanū
“O you who believe!
275
man yar-tadda minkum `an dīnih
Whoever from among you turns back from his religion,
276
fasawfa ya-tillāhu biqawmin yuḥibbuhum wayuḥibbūnah
then Allah will bring a people. He shall love them and they shall love Him.
277
adhillatin `alal mu-minīn
[They shall be] lowly before the believers,
278
a`izzatin `alal kāfirīn
mighty against the unbelievers.
279
yujāhidūna fī sabīlillāh
They shall strive hard in Allah's way
280
walā yakhāfūna lawmata lā-im
and shall not fear the censure of any censurer.
281
dhālika faḍlullāhi yu-tīhi man yashā
This is Allah's favor; He gives it to whom He pleases.
282
wallāhu wāsi`un `alīm
And Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.
283
innamā waliyyukumullāhu warasūluhu walladhīna-āmanū
Only Allah is your Guardian and His Messenger and those who believe:
284
al ladhīna yuqīmūnaṣ ṣalāh
those who keep up prayers
285
wayu-tūnaz zakāta wahum rāki`ūn
and give alms while they are in the state of the genuflection of prayer.
286
waman yatawallallāha warasūlahu walladhīna-āmanū
And whoever takes Allah and His messenger and those who believe for a guardian,
287
fa-inna ḥizballāhi humul ghālibūn
then, surely, the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant.”
288
rabbanā-āmannā bimā anzalta wattaba`nar rasūl
Our Lord! We believe in what You have revealed and we follow the messenger;
289
faktubnā ma`ash shāhidīn
so, write us down with those who bear witness.
290
rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā ba`da idh hadaytanā
Our Lord! Make not our hearts to deviate after You have guided us aright.
291
wahab lanā min ladunka raḥmah
And grant us from Your mercy.
292
innaka antal wahhāb
Surely, You are the most liberal Giver.
293
allāhumma innā na`lamu anna hādhā huwal ḥaqqu min `indik
O Allah, We do realize that this is the truth whose source is You.
294
fal`an man `āraḍahu wastakbar
So, curse those who object, act arrogantly [towards it],
295
wakadhhaba bihi wakafar
belie, and deny it.
296
wasaya`lamul ladhīna ẓalamū ayya munqalabin yanqalibūn
And they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back.
297
as salāmu `alayka yā amīral mu-minīn
Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful,
298
wasayyidal waṣiyyīn
chief of the Prophets’ successors,
299
wa-awwalal `ābidīn
foremost of the worshippers,
300
wa-azhadaz zāhidīn
and most ascetic.
301
waraḥmatullāhi wabarakātuh
May Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
302
waṣalawātuhu wataḥiyyātuh
So be His peace and compliments.
303
anta muṭ`imuṭ ṭa`āmi `alā ḥubbihi miskīnan wayatīman wa-asīrā
It is you who served a poor man, an orphan, and a prisoner with food on account of your love for Him,
304
liwajhillāhi lā turīdu minhum jazā-an walā shukūrā
[you did so] for the sake of Allah, while you did not ask for reward or thanks.
305
wafīka anzalallāhu ta`ālā
Hence, Almighty Allah has revealed the following about you:
306
wayu-thirūna `alā anfusihim walaw kāna bihim khaṣāṣah
“And they prefer them to themselves though poverty may afflict them.
307
waman yūqa shuḥḥa nafsihi fa-ūlā-ika humul mufliḥūn
And whoever is preserved from the niggardliness of his soul, these it is that are the successful ones.”
308
wa-antal kāẓimu lilghayẓ
Verily, it is you who is the suppressor of rage
309
wal`afī `anin nās
and it is you who is the pardoner of people,
310
wallāhu yuḥibbul muḥsinīn
and Allah loves the good-doers.
311
wa-antaṣ ṣābiru fil ba-sā-i waḍ ḍarrā-i waḥīnal ba-s
It is also you who is the steadfast in distress and affliction, as well as in times of conflicts.
312
wa-antal qāsimu bissawiyyah
And it is you who distributes things completely equally,
313
wal`ādilu fir ra`iyyah
who is just among the subjects,
314
wal`ālimu biḥudūdillāhi min jamī`il bariyyah
and the one having full acquaintance with the laws of Allah among all people.
315
wallāhu ta`ālā akhbara `ammā awlāka min faḍlihi biqawlih
Informing about the favors that He has conferred upon you, Allah the All-exalted says,
316
afaman kāna mu-minan kaman kāna fāsiqā
“Is he then who is a believer like him who is a transgressor?
317
lā yastawūn
They are not equal.
318
ammal ladhīna-āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāt
As for those who believe and do good,
319
falahum jannātul ma-wā nuzulan bimā kānū ya`malūn
the gardens of Paradise are their abiding-place; an entertainment for what they did.”
320
wa-antal makhṣūṣu bi`ilmit tanzīl
It is you to whom the knowledge of the Divine Revelation is given exclusively
321
waḥukmit ta-wīl
as well as the laws of true interpretation [of the Holy Qur'an]
322
wanaṣṣir rasūl
and the words of the Messenger.
323
walakal mawāqiful mash-hūdah
You are known for your unforgettable situations,
324
walmaqāmātul mash-hūrah
renowned positions,
325
wal-ayyāmul madhkūrah
and memorable events,
326
yawma badrin wayawmal aḥzāb
in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of the Allies [al-Ahzab]:
327
idh zāghatil abṣāru wabalaghatil qulūbul ḥanājir
“When the eyes turned dull, and the hearts rose up to the throats,
328
wataẓunnuna billāhiẓ ẓnūnā
and you began to think diverse thoughts of Allah.
329
hunālikabtuliyal mu-minūna wazulzilū zilzālan shadīdā
There, the believers were tried and they were shaken with severe shaking.
330
wa-idh yaqūlul munāfiqūna walladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍ
And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease began to say:
331
mā wa`adanallāhu warasūluhu illā ghurūrā
‘Allah and His Messenger did not promise us [victory] but only to deceive.’
332
wa-idh qālat ṭā-ifatun minhum
And when a party of them said,
333
yā ahla yathriba lā muqāma lakum far-ji`ū
‘O people of Yathrib! There is no place to stand for you here; therefore, go back.’
334
wayasta-dhinu farīqun minhumun nabiyy
And a party of them asked permission of the prophet,
335
yaqūlūna inna buyūtanā `awrah
saying: ‘Surely, our houses are exposed.’
336
wamā hiya bi`awratin in yurīdūna illā firārā
And they were not exposed; they only desired to fly away.”
337
waqālallāhu ta`ālā
Almighty Allah has also said:
338
walammā ra-al mu-minūnal aḥzāba qālū
“And when the believers saw the allies, they said:
339
hādhā mā wa`adanallāhu warasūluh
‘This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us.
340
waṣadaqallāhu warasūluh
And Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth.’
341
wamā zādahum illā īmānan wataslīmā
And it only increased them in faith and submission.”
342
faqatalta `amrahum
On that day, you [O `Ali] killed their knight, `Amr [ibn `Abd-Wadd]
343
wahazamta jam`ahum
and defeated their allies:
344
waraddallāhul ladhīna kafarū bighayẓihim
“And Allah turned back the unbelievers in their rage.
345
lam yanālū khayrā
They did not obtain any advantage.
346
wakafallāhul mu-minīnal qitāl
And Allah sufficed the believers in fighting.
347
wakānallāhu qawiyyan `azīzā
And Allah is Strong, Mighty.”
348
wayawma uḥudin idh yuṣ`idūna walā yalwūna `alā aḥad
On the Battle of Uhud: “When they ran off precipitately and did not wait for any one
349
war rasūlu yad`ūhum fī ukhrāhum
and the Messenger was calling them from their rear.”
350
wa-anta tadhūdu bihimul mushrikīna `anin nabiyy
And you were engaged in preventing the polytheists from reaching the Prophet,
351
dhātal yamīni wadhātash shimāl
on both sides—the right and the left,
352
ḥattā raddahumullāhu ta`ālā `ankumā khā-ifīn
until Almighty Allah drove them back, full of fear.
353
wanaṣara bikal khādhilīn
Hence, He gave victory, by means of you, to the disappointing ones.
354
wayawma ḥunaynin `alā mā naṭaqa bihit tanzīl
On the Battle of Hunayn, as is accounted by the Divine Revelation:
355
idh a`jabatkum kathratukum falam tughni `ankum shay-ā
“When your great numbers made you vain, but they availed you nothing.
356
waḍāqat `alaykumul ar-ḍu bimā raḥubat
And the earth became strait to you notwithstanding its spaciousness,
357
thumma wallaytum mudbirīn
then you turned back retreating.
358
thumma anzalallāhu sakīnatahu `alā rasūlihi wa`alal mu-minīn
Then, Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers.”
359
walmu-minūna anta waman yalīk
“The believers” were you and your party.
360
wa`ammukal `abbāsu yunādil munhazimīn
You uncle, al-`Abbas, was calling at the defeated party:
361
yā aṣ-ḥāba sūratil baqarah
“O companions of Surah al-Baqarah!
362
yā ahla bay`atish shajarah
O owners of the Allegiance of the Tree!”
363
ḥattastajāba lahu qawmun qad kafaytahumul ma-ūnah
He still shouted until a group responded to him, and it was you who replaced them in fighting,
364
watakaffalta dūnahumul ma`ūnah
and it was you who aided the Prophet instead of them.
365
fa`ādū-āyisīna minal mathūbah
They therefore returned free from reward,
366
rājīna wa`dallāhi ta`ālā bittawbah
and hoping for repentance, as was promised by Almighty Allah.
367
wadhālika qawlullāhi jalla dhikruh
He, majestic be His mention, says,
368
thumma yatūbullāhu min ba`di dhālika `alā man yashā
“Then will Allah, after this, turn mercifully to whom He pleases.”
369
wa-anta ḥā-izun darajataṣ ṣabr
As for you, you were awarded the rank of steadfastness
370
fā-izun bi`aẓīmil ajr
and prized the great reward.
371
wayawma khaybara idh aẓharallāhu khawaral munāfiqīn
On the Battle of Khaybar, when Allah exposed the cowardice of the hypocrites
372
waqaṭa`a dābiral kāfirīn
and cut off the roots of the atheists,
373
walḥamdu lillāhi rabbil `ālamīn
so, all praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds [for that]:
374
walaqad kānū `āhadullāha min qablu lā yuwallūnal adbār
“And, certainly, they had made a covenant with Allah before, that they would not turn their backs.
375
wakāna `ahdullāhi mas-ūlā
And Allah's covenant shall be inquired of.”
376
mawlāya antal ḥujjatul bālighah
O master, you are the conclusive argument [of Allah],
377
walmaḥajjatul wāḍiḥah
the clear course,
378
wan ni`matus sābighah
the poured grace,
379
walbur-hānul munīr
and the radiant evidence.
380
fahanī-an laka bimā-ātākallāhu min faḍl
So, congratulations, for the favors that Allah has given you.
381
watabban lishāni-ika dhil jahl
perdition overtake your enemies, the ignorant!
382
shahidta ma`an nabiyyi ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālih
You presented yourself with the Prophet—peace be upon him and his Household—
383
jamī`a ḥurūbihi wamaghāzīh
during all battles and expeditions that he led;
384
taḥmilur rāyata amāmah
you always carried the pennon with him
385
wataḍribu bissayfi quddāmah
and stroke [the enemies] with your sword before him.
386
thumma liḥazmikal mash-hūr
Then, due to your prominent determination
387
wabaṣīratika fil umūr
and your sagacity in all affairs,
388
ammaraka fil mawāṭin
he [i.e. the Prophet] appointed you as the commander on all occasions,
389
walam yakun `alayka amīr
and you were never under the commandment of another.
390
wakam min amrin ṣaddaka `an imḍā-i `azmika fīhit tuqā
On many occasions, your piety prevented you from doing what you had decided about a matter,
391
wattaba`a ghayruka fī mithlihil hawā
while your rival followed his [personal] lust and committed that matter.
392
faẓannal jāhilūna annaka `ajazta `ammā ilayhintahā
Thus, the ignorant ones thought that you were incapable of doing that which had been done by your rival!
393
ḍalla wallāhiẓ ẓānnu lidhālika wamahtadā
I swear by Allah that any one who thought so had missed the right thing and had never found the true guidance.
394
walaqad awḍaḥta mā ashkala min dhālika liman tawahhama wamtarā
However, you clarified the misunderstanding in which those who fancied and doubted fell
395
biqawlika ṣallallāhu `alayk
by your saying—may Allah’s peace be upon you:
396
qad yaral ḥuwwalul qullabu wajhal ḥīlah
“One who has been through thick and thin of life finds the excuses
397
wadūnahā ḥājizun min taqwallāh
to be preventing him from orders and prohibitions of Allah,
398
fayada`uhā ra-yal `ayn
but he disregards them despite capability [to succumb to them and instead follows the commands of Allah],
399
wayantahizu fur-ṣatahā man lā ḥarījata lahu fid dīn
while one who has no restraints of religion seizes the opportunity [and accepts the excuses for not following the commands of Allah].”
400
ṣadaqta wallāhi wakhasiral mubṭilūn
You have said the very truth; I swear it by Allah, and the followers of vanity are indeed losers.
401
wa-idh mākarakan nākithān
And when the two preachers [of their allegiance] tried to deceive you;
402
faqālā nurīdul `umrah
and said, “We want to go on `umrah!”
403
faqulta lahumā la`amrukumā mā turīdānil `umrah
You thus answered them, “I swear by your lives; you do not want to go on `umrah;
404
lākin turīdānil ghadrah
rather, you want to betray me!”
405
fa-akhadhtal bay`ata `alayhimā
Hence, you made covenant with them again
406
wajaddadtal mīthāq
and you renewed their allegiance to you;
407
fajaddā fin nifāq
but they exerted all efforts to act hypocritically.
408
falammā nabbahtahumā `alā fi`lihimā aghfalā wa`ādā wamantafa`ā
And when you drew their attentions to this act, they neglected, redid it again, and did not follow your advice.
409
wakāna `āqibatu amrihimā khusrā
Thus, their end result was loss.
410
thumma talāhumā ahlush shām
After them, the people of Syria [mutinied]!
411
fasir-ta ilayhim ba`dal i`dhār
So, you went to fight them after you had provided all excuses,
412
wahum lā yadīnūna dīnal ḥaqq
while they did not follow the true religion
413
walā yatadabbarūnal qur-ān
neither did they understand the Qur'an.
414
hamajun ru`ā`un ḍāllūn
They were rabble, rot, and deviants,
415
wabilladhī unzila `alā muḥammadin fīka kāfirūn
and they were unbelievers in what was revealed to Muhammad about your leadership,
416
wal-ahlil khilāfi `alayka nāṣirūn
and they were supporters of those who antagonized you.
417
waqad amarallāhu ta`ālā bittibā`ik
While, Almighty Allah ordered everyone to follow you
418
wanadabal mu-minīna ilā naṣrik
and instructed the believers to support you.
419
waqāla `azza wajall
He, the Almighty and All-majestic, has said in this respect:
420
yā ayyuhal ladhīna-āmanū
“O you who believe!
421
ittaqullāha wakūnū ma`aṣ ṣādiqīn
Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful.”
422
mawlāya bika ẓaharal ḥaqq
O master, through you did the right manifest itself,
423
waqad nabadhahul khalq
but the people discarded it.
424
wa-awḍaḥtas sunana ba`dad durūsi waṭ ṭams
And you made clear the [Prophetic] traditions after they had been eradicated and confused.
425
falaka sābiqatul jihādi `alā taṣdīqit tanzīl
Hence, you enjoy the priority of struggling for the sake of confirming the Divine Revelation,
426
walaka faḍīlatul jihādi `alā taḥqīqit ta-wīl
and you enjoy the virtue of struggling for the sake of confirming the true interpretation [of the Divine Revelation].
427
wa`aduwwuka `aduwwullāhi jāḥidun lirasūlillāh
Your enemy is in fact the enemy of Allah and the denier of Allah’s Messenger.
428
yad`ū bāṭilan wayaḥkumu jā-irā
Your enemy thus calls for vanity, judges unfairly,
429
wayata-ammaru ghāṣiban wayad`ū ḥizbahu ilan nār
usurps the position of rule, and drives his fans to Hellfire.
430
wa`ammārun yujāhidu wayunādī baynaṣ ṣaffayn
While `Ammar [ibn Yasir] strove and called at the two parties [of the battle]:
431
ar rawāḥar rawāḥa ilal jannah
“How eager I am to join Paradise!”
432
walammastasqā fasuqiyal labana kabbara waqāl
When he then asked for a drink, he was served with a drink of milk; he thus shouted, glorifying Allah, and said:
433
qāla lī rasūlullāhi ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālih
“The Messenger of Allah—peace of Allah be upon him and his Household—did say to me:
434
ākhiru sharābika minad dunyā ḍayāḥun min laban
‘The last drink that you will have in this world is a cup of milk,
435
wataqtulukal fi-atul bāghiyah
and the transgressing party will kill you.’”
436
fa`taraḍahu abul `ādiyatil fazāriyyu faqatalah
Thus, Abu’l-`ªdiyah al-Fazari faced and killed him.
437
fa`alā abil `ādiyati la`natullāh
The curse of Allah
438
wala`natu mala-a-ikatihi warusulihi ajma`īn
and the curse of all His angels and Messengers be upon this Abu’l-`ªdiyah,
439
wa`alā man salla sayfahu `alayk
upon any one who unsheathed a sword against you,
440
wasalalta sayfaka `alayh
and upon any one against whom you unsheathed your sword—
441
yā amīral mu-minīn
O Commander of the Faithful—
442
minal mushrikīna walmunāfiqīna ilā yawmid dīn
[Curse be upon] the polytheists and the hypocrites up to the Religion Day.
443
wa`alā man raḍiya bimā sā-ak
Curse be also upon any one whom is pleased by whatever upsets you,
444
walam yakrah-hu wa-aghmaḍa `aynahu walam yunkir
and curse be upon any one who is not passive for whatever upsets you and upon any one who bypasses and does not deny,
445
aw a`āna `alayka biyadin aw lisān
and upon any one who supports your rivals by deeds or words,
446
aw qa`ada `an naṣrik
and upon any one who fails to support you,
447
aw khadhala `anil jihādi ma`ak
and upon any one who slackens to fight with you,
448
aw ghamaṭa faḍlak
and upon any one who despises your merits,
449
wajaḥada ḥaqqak
and upon any one who denies your right,
450
aw `adala bika man ja`alakallāhu awlā bihi min nafsih
and upon any one who leaves you and joins one upon whom Almighty Allah has given you priority.
451
waṣalawātullāhi `alayka waraḥmatullāhi wabarakātuh
Allah’s peace, mercy, and blessings,
452
wasalāmuhu wataḥiyyātuh
compliments, and greetings
453
wa`alal a-immati min-ālikaṭ ṭāhirīn
be upon you and upon the Imams from your Immaculate Household.
454
innahu ḥamīdun majīd
Verily, Allah is Praised and Glorious.
455
wal-amrul a`jab
What is more astounding
456
walkhaṭbul afẓa`u ba`da jaḥdika ḥaqqak
and more horrible than usurping your right
457
ghaṣbuṣ ṣiddīqatiṭ ṭāhiratiz zahrā-i sayyidatin nisā-i fadakā
is the usurpation of Fadak from the veracious, pure, and luminous Lady, the doyenne of the women of the world!
458
waraddu shahādatika washahādatis sayyidayni sulālatik
As well as the rejection of your testimony and the testimonies of the two masters—your descendants,
459
wa`itratil muṣṭafā ṣallallāhu `alaykum
and the Household of the Chosen Prophet, may Allah’s peace be upon you all.
460
waqad a`lallāhu ta`ālā `alal ummati darajatakum
Whereas Almighty Allah has elevated you in rank over the nation,
461
warafa`a manzilatakum
raised your positions,
462
wa-abāna faḍlakum washarafakum `alal `ālamīn
and demonstrated your preference and honorable favorability over all the created beings.
463
fa-adh-haba `ankumur rijsa waṭahharakum taṭ-hīrā
He thus removed away filth from you and purified you with the most thorough purification.
464
qālallāhu `azza wajall
Allah the Almighty and All-majestic says:
465
innal insāna khuliqa halū`ā
“Indeed, man is created of a hasty temperament.
466
idhā massahush sharru jazū`ā
Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him
467
wa-idhā massahul khayru manū`ā
and niggardly when good befalls him,
468
illal muṣallīn
except those who pray.”
469
fastathnallāhu ta`ālā nabiyyahul muṣṭafā
Hence, Almighty Allah has excluded His Chosen Prophet
470
wa-anta yā sayyidal awṣiyā-i min jamī`il khalq
you, the chief of the Prophets’ successors, from among all His beings.
471
famā a`maha man ẓalamaka `anil ḥaqq
How deviant from the right he who has wronged you is!
472
thumma afraḍūka sahma dhawil qur-bā makrā
They then deceptively decided the share of ‘Near of Kin’ to be for you,
473
wa-aḥādūhu `an ahlihi jawrā
after they wrongly deprived its meritorious people of it.
474
falammā-ālal amru ilayka ajraytahum `alā mā ajrayā
When the matter [of rule] was returned to you, you continued carrying out what they had decided,
475
raghbatan `anhumā bimā `indallāhi lak
because you desired for what is stored by Allah for you.
476
fa-ashbahat miḥnatuka bihimā miḥanal anbiyā-i `alayhimus salām
Your ordeals are thus similar to the ordeals encountered by the Prophets, peace be upon them,
477
`indal waḥdati wa`adamil anṣār
who also faced loneliness and absence of supporters.
478
wa-ashbahta fil bayāti `alal firāshidh dhabīḥa `alayhis salām
As you replaced the Prophet by spending that night on his bed instead of him, this situation was similar to the situation of the self-sacrificing Prophet, peace be upon him.
479
idh ajabta kamā ajāb
Because you responded [to the Prophet’s order] in the same way as he [i.e. Prophet Isma`il] responded [to his father’s request],
480
wa-aṭa`ta kamā aṭā`a ismā`īlu ṣābiran muḥtasibā
and you obeyed the Prophet in the same way as [Prophet] Isma`il obeyed with steadfastness and reliance upon Allah.
481
idh qāla lahu yā bunayya innī arā fil manāmi annī adhbaḥuk
Hence, when his father said to him, ‘O my son! Surely, I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you;
482
fanẓur mādhā tarā
consider then what you see.’
483
qāla yā abatif`al mā tu-mar
He said, ‘O my father! Do what you are commanded;
484
satajidunī in shā-allāhu minaṣ ṣābirīn
if Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones.’
485
wakadhālika anta lammā abātakan nabiyyu ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālih
The same situation with you, when the Prophet—peace be upon him and his Household—chose you to replace him,
486
wa-amaraka an taḍja`a fī mar-qadih
and ordered you to sleep in his bed instead of him
487
wāqiyan lahu binafsik
so that you should protect him by sacrificing yourself for him,
488
asra`ta ilā ijābatihi muṭī`ā
you quickly responded to his request with obedience,
489
walinafsika `alal qatli muwaṭṭinā
by exposing yourself to killing fearlessly.
490
fashakarallāhu ta`ālā ṭā`atak
So, Allah the All-exalted appreciated this obedience to him
491
wa-abāna `an jamīli fi`lika biqawlihi jalla dhikruh
and He, majestic be His mention, declared your excellent deed by saying:
492
waminan nāsi man yashrī nafsahubtighā-a mar-ḍātillāh
“And among men is he who sells himself to seek the pleasure of Allah.”
493
thumma miḥnatuka yawma ṣiffīn
Then, your ordeal on the Battle of Siffin,
494
waqad rufi`atil maṣāḥifu ḥīlatan wamakrā
when books of the Qur'an were raised [on spearheads] out of trickery and deception,
495
fa-a`raḍash shakk
causing doubt to be aroused,
496
wa`uzifal ḥaqq
the truth to be neglected,
497
wattubi`aẓ ẓann
and conjecture to be followed,
498
ashbahat miḥnata hārūna idh ammarahu mūsā `alā qawmihi fatafarraqū `anh
this ordeal was similar to the ordeal of [Prophet] Aaron when [Prophet] Moses appointed him as the leader of his people, but they left him alone,
499
wahārūnu yunādī bihim wayaqūl
while [Prophet] Aaron was calling at them, saying:
500
yā qawmi innamā futintum bihi wa-inna rabbakumur raḥmān
‘O my people! You are only tried by it, and surely your Lord is the Beneficent Allah.
501
fāttabi`ūnī wa-aṭī`ū amrī
Therefore, follow me and obey my order.’
502
qālū lan nabraḥa `alayhi `ākifīna ḥattā yar-ji`a ilaynā mūsā
They said, ‘We will by no means cease to keep to its worship until Moses returns to us.’
503
wakadhālika anta lammā rufi`atil maṣāḥifu qult
Similarly, when the books of the Qur'an were raised [on spearheads], you said:
504
yā qawmi innamā futintum bihā wakhudi`tum
‘O my people, you are only tried by this and you have been surely cheated.’
505
fa`aṣawka wakhālafū `alayk
Nevertheless, they disobeyed you and did the opposite.
506
wastad`ū naṣbal ḥakamayn
And when they demanded with nominating two arbitrators [one from each party],
507
fa-abayta `alayhim watabarra-ta ilallāhi min fi`lihim wafawwaḍtahu ilayhim
you rejected and declared your disavowal of this act before Allah, and then asked them to do whatever they wanted.
508
falammā asfaral ḥaqq
Thus, when the truth manifested itself
509
wasafihal munkar
the wrong was proven as futile,
510
wa`tarafū bizzalali waljawri `anil qaṣd
and they confessed of their flaw and deviation from the right thing,
511
ikhtalafū min ba`dih
they also mutinied after that
512
wa-alzamūka `alā safahit taḥkīmil ladhī abaytahu wa-aḥabbūh
and obliged you to commit to the nonsensical result of the arbitration that you had rejected and they had accepted,
513
waḥaẓar-tahu wa-abāḥū dhanbahumul ladhiqtarafūh
and you had forbidden it, and they then confessed of the sin that they had committed.
514
wa-anta `alā nahji baṣīratin wahudā
While you were following the course of sagacity and true guidance,
515
wahum `alā sunani ḍalālatin wa`amā
they were following the courses of deviation and blindness.
516
famā zālū `alan nifāqi muṣirrīn
Nonetheless, they insisted on hypocrisy
517
wafil ghayyi mutaraddidīn
and involved themselves in seduction
518
ḥattā adhāqahumullāhu wabāla amrihim
until Allah made them taste the evil result of their conduct.
519
fa-amāta bisayfika man `ānadaka fashaqiya wahawā
He thus deadened, through your sword, those who mutinied against you, causing them eternal misery and perdition,
520
wa-aḥyā biḥujjatika man sa`ada fahudiy
and He gave life, through your acting as His argument, to those whom He decided as happy; therefore, they were guided [to the true choice].
521
ṣalawātullāhi `alayka ghādiyatan warā-iḥah
Allah’s blessings be upon you, coming and going,
522
wa`ākifatan wadhāhibah
and still and moving.
523
famā yuḥīṭul mādiḥu waṣfak
Certainly, no one praising you can ever cover your actual characteristics
524
walā yuḥbiṭuṭ ṭā`inu faḍlak
and no one criticizing you can ever belittle your merits.
525
anta aḥsanul khalqi `ibādah
You are verily the best worshipper of all created beings,
526
wa-akhlaṣuhum zahādah
the most sincere in asceticism,
527
wa-adhabbuhum `anid dīn
and the most enthusiastic defender of the religion.
528
aqamta ḥudūdallāhi bijuhdik
You executed the laws of Allah with exceptional efforts
529
wafalalta `asākiral māriqīna bisayfik
and damaged the armies of the apostates with your sword.
530
tukhmidu lahabal ḥurūbi bibanānik
You can extinguish the flames of battles with your finger,
531
watahtiku sutūrash shubahi bibayānik
tear out the curtains of seditions with your eloquent language,
532
watakshifu labsal bāṭili `an ṣarīḥil ḥaqq
and distinguish the confusing wrong from the plain right.
533
lā ta-khudhuka fillāhi lawmatu lā-im
You are never influenced by any censure as long as you work for the sake of Allah.
534
wafī mad-ḥillāhi ta`ālā laka ghinā
The praising of Allah the All-exalted to you suffices
535
`an mad-ḥil mādiḥīna wataqrīẓil wāṣifīn
from the praising of any other one and from the approval of the depicters.
536
qālallāhu ta`ālā
Almighty Allah says:
537
minal mu-minīna rijālun ṣadaqū mā `āhadullāha `alayh
“Of the believers are men who are true to the covenant which they made with Allah.
538
faminhum man qaḍā naḥbahu waminhum man yantaẓiru wamā baddalū tabdīlā
So, of them is he who accomplished his vow, of them is he who yet waits, and they have not changed in the least.”
539
walammā ra-ayta an qataltan nākithīna walqāsiṭīna walmāriqīn
After you felt that you had killed the preachers, the wrongdoers, and the apostates,
540
waṣadaqaka rasūlullāhi ṣallallāhu `alayhi wa ālihi wa`dah
the predictions of Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household—came true,
541
fa-awfayta bi`ahdihi qult
and you had fulfilled your promise to him, you then said:
542
amā-āna an tukhḍaba hādhihi min hādhih
“Has time not come yet so that this [beard] shall be dyed with the blood of this [head]?
543
am matā yub`athu ashqāhā
When will the most unfortunate of them be sent [to slay me]?”
544
wāthiqan bi-annaka `alā bayyinatin min rabbik
You were always confident that you were proceeding on clear proof from your Lord,
545
wabaṣīratin min amrik
you were acting with sure knowledge of what you do,
546
qādimun `alallāh
you were on your way to Allah,
547
mustabshirun bibay`ikal ladhī bāya`tahu bih
and you were rejoicing in the bargain that you had made with Him;
548
wadhālika huwal fawzul `aẓīm
and that is the supreme triumph.
549
allāhummal `an qatalata anbiyā-ika wa-awṣiyā-i anbiyā-ik
O Allah, curse the murderers of your Prophets and the murderers of Your Prophets’ successors
550
bijamī`i la`anātik
with the variant curses [that You have prepared for them],
551
wa-aṣlihim ḥarra nārik
and make those slayers to taste the heat of Your fire.
552
wal`an man ghaṣaba waliyyaka ḥaqqah
And also curse those who usurped the right of Your friend,
553
wa-ankara `ahdah
those who denied their allegiance to him,
554
wajaḥadahu ba`dal yaqīni wal-iqrāri bil wilāyati lah
and those who rejected him after they had witnessed and declared their loyalty to him
555
yawma akmalta lahud dīn
on the day when you completed your religion through him.
556
allāhummal `an qatalata amīril mu-minīn
O Allah, curse those who slew the Commander of the Faithful,
557
waman ẓalamahu wa-ashyā`ahum wa-anṣārahum
curse those who wronged him, and curse their adherents and supporters.
558
allāhummal `an ẓālimil ḥusayni waqātilīh
O Allah, curse those who wronged and slew al-Husayn,
559
walmutābi`īna `aduwwahu wanāṣirīh
and curse those who adhered to his enemies and those who supported them,
560
war rāḍīna biqatlihi wakhādhilīhi la`nan wabīlā
and curse those who were pleased by the murder of killing al-Husayn and those who disappointed him, with violent cursing.
561
allāhummal `an awwala ẓālimin ẓalama-āla muḥammad
O Allah, curse the first one to invent the wronging against the Household of Muhammad
562
wamāni`īhim ḥuqūqahum
and curse those who deprived them of their rights.
563
allāhumma khuṣṣa awwala ẓālimin waghāṣibin li-āli muḥammadin billla`n
O Allah, pour violent curses upon the first one who wronged and usurped the rights of the Household of Muhammad,
564
wakulla mustannin bimā sanna ilā yawmil qiyāmah
and curse all those who followed those wrongdoers up to the Resurrection Day.
565
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin khātamin nabiyyīn
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets,
566
wa`alā `aliyyin sayyidil waṣiyyīna wa ālihiṭ ṭāhirīn
and upon `Ali, the chief of the Prophets’ successors, and upon his immaculate Household,
567
waj`alnā bihim mutamassikīn
[please do] make us adhere to them firmly,
568
wabiwilāyatihim minal fā-izīnal-āminīn
and include us with those who shall be winners and secured because they abode by their leadership;
569
al ladhīna lā khawfun `alayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn
those upon whom there shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.
